I have a simple way of looking at things sometimes. But as to the subject of auto interiors and as to how they should smell I have a few opinions. To me, nothing beats the smell of a brand new car with leather upholstery. On a older car my preferred sent is shampoo and light hints of cleaners. It to me it at least smells as if it is well taken care of. Save the armor all and other such such snake oils for the used car lot boys. Rubbers and plastics should not have a glassy greased back Happy Days, "Fonzie" look.
I was in the auto parts store last night looking for a radiator drain plug to use on my air compressor. Never can go to a store and just buy things for what they are intended. As I was explaining to the clerk what it was that I was doing, another fella came up with like 15 Christmas tree air fresheners. They smelled like someone had drank a bottle of pine sol and then peed all over a bit of cardboard.
As my guy was in the back dark corner looking in some dusty parts bin. I noticed that the other customer was now standing over a trash can unwrapping all of his recent purchase. He then went out to his car and hung all of these pine sol trees from his rear view mirror. I said to the clerk who had taken the transaction something about automotive Christmas decorations. So many trees and little lights would no doubt be next. The clerk said,.. "Yea, I don't care for that odor, smells like my Grand Dad's car. Hey, you know what? I have a stash of naked lady air fresheners if you want some!". I looked the guy strait in the eye and asked him,.. " No kiddin', do they smell like naked ladies?". The only sound that was made was the noise of a can of WD-40 hitting the floor from isle 3.
I paid for my drain plug and headed out the door. As I passed through the door I could not help but look back at the help counter and seeing two young men pressing air fresheners in their faces. Life is full of great sources of self amusement
